Flowers in the Mirror – The Witch Kingdom

Here is my master's work in character design, based on an oriental fantasy story originated from an ancient Chinese novel-Flowers in the Mirror.
(According to a legend, the Moon Goddess left some broken pieces of a magic mirror in the human world. Every piece can bring unknown power or disaster, depending on the morality of the holder. The new queen of the Witch Kingdom inherits a magic mirror fragment. Her nephew-the persecuted prince sends his subordinates to find another holder to fight against the evil queen. )

The prince who was deprived of the throne lives under the control of the queen, and his clothing style and texture hint at his state in the story: the first, all-black tightly-wrapped clothing expresses restraint, a feeling of depression, weakness, and the patterns: small birds and vertical lines “birds in cages”. The sleeves of the second are torn and knotted, symbolizing “the trimmed wing”—the loss of freedom. At last, a huge bird texture with wings spreading hints at the preparation for the final battle.
